It is always a shame when people are too afraid to smile because of imperfections in their teeth. One of most common imperfections people deal with are crooked teeth. Just because your teeth are crooked though, doesn’t mean you should be too embarrassed to smile! However, just in case those words of inspiration don’t erase your fears, you will be happy to know that there are things you can do to straighten your teeth. You might be even more happy to learn that it doesn’t have to necessarily involve the usage of traditional metal braces!
Yes, braces are a very common method of teeth straightening for both children and adults. However, they can take many years to start working. The notion behind braces is that if the teeth are tightened constantly, that they will be guided in the right direction. This is true, but it can take a while and is very uncomfortable and unattractive. People usually have even less confidence smiling with braces in there mouth than with crooked teeth. That said, let’s take a look at some other options for straightening your teeth…
If you only have a few crooked teeth to deal with and it’s not too severe, there is the option of Invisalign. This is the procedure of using a number of retainer-like pieces which are also clear. They are meant to fit
over your teeth for the purpose of gradual alignment. They can also be removed for certain situations if desired. These devices can correct minor issues regarding the alignment of your teeth. It is important to note that Invisalign is more expensive than braces, but not nearly as visible and unattractive.
If you are looking to straighten your teeth in the shortest possible time you might want to consider accelerated orthodontics. This involves several dentist surgery procedures in combination which can take up to 75 percent less time to straighten your teeth than braces. This is the most expensive option for teeth straightening, but by far the quickest.
There are also cases where you might have a few crooked teeth which aren’t next to eachother and braces wouldn’t make sense. There are options like porcelain veneers also known as “teeth capping.” In this procedure, your tooth is shaved down which will get rid of the flaw. Then the removed imperfection will be replaced by porcelain resulting in a symmetrical aligned appearance in your teeth.
Your teeth can also be fixed by contouring procedures. Like the porcelain veneers technique, your tooth will also be shaved down in this method, but not porcelain capped afterward. In this procedure, the imperfection will either be left alone or replaced with a bonding element depending on the degree of the imperfection.
